A guest review

We stayed overnight here during a hike across Cowal. The hosts were extremely welcoming and friendly, and the house and garden are very well looked after. They cooked up a fantastic dinner, just what we needed after hiking all day!

About the property

On the route of the Cowal Way long distance path. Choose from B&B or stay on a self-cater basis.

The property

“The Watermill, built in 1905 to service the grain on what was the Glendaruel Estate, has been tastefully converted over the years, but always with a view to retaining its character.

They offer quality 4 stars graded B&B rooms in the turret, as well as The Saw Mill and The Joiner’s Shop which can be booked on a B&B basis or Self Catering. Each room is different as you would expect in such an unusual building. The property sits within a beautiful secluded garden and woodland, complete with the original mill pond and streams that generated the power to service the mill.

The Water Mill is in the idyllic setting of Glendaruel in the heart of the Cowal Peninsula, Argyll. If you are walking the Cowal Way Path then you will be passing our door. We welcome many walkers throughout the year, but we also cater to guests looking for a truly relaxing place to base themselves while they explore our beautiful part of Argyll.

The Water Mill is an oasis on a quiet single-track road in West Glendaruel.

What the guests say

“Beautiful, peaceful location run by lovely people.” We stayed at the watermill while we were on a months trip ‘home’. We decided to stay last minute as my aunt has a caravan in the site near the B&B. When the hosts heard we were from Australia they put all the heating on in the room and made it really cozy for us. The room was gorgeous and spacious. The decor of the whole house is lovely. We had our 17 month old in a travel cot in the bay window recess, she slept a dream both nights as did we. The hosts made us a lovely pot of tea and sat and chatted with us in the beautiful lounge room with a big fire going. The house is lovely with lots of character and the breakfast/ sunroom is amazing. We took the baby for a walk through the garden and visited the chickens and cows, which she loved. Michael and Sandra’s breakfast was lovely, the eggs are so fresh, only laid the day before. They even catered to our babies needs spoiling her with her choice/ choices of porridge and scrambled eggs. The location seems out of the way but its only about 2 hours from Glasgow and while we were there we went across to Bute to Stuart House (well worth a visit) for a craft/ food fair which was great. Great place, so nice we had to stay a second night.
